In this monologue, Gustav is speaking to Adolph, who has no idea that Gustav is his wife's first husband. Gustav tells Adolph about his younger brother who married a perfect woman who still managed to steal his initiative. Gustav describes and demonstrates the horrible physical ailments from which his brother suffered due to this woman. He tells Adolph that if he doesn't want to end up like his brother he must first be celibate for at least 6 months.
