In this monologue, the police officer explains to Orgon why Tartuffe is being arrested. He tells him that Tartuffe met with the Prince with the intention of incriminating Orgon. The Prince immediately recognized that Tartuffe was the same man who has been conning others under a different name. He sent the officer to follow Tartuffe back to Orgon's home where he is to arrest him. The officer also relays to Orgon that the Prince is pardoning any crimes committed by Orgon as his virtues outweigh his misdoings.
