It had been a really awful week. My boss was being an ass. My car kept overheating. I just felt terrible. So, my friend Anna took me out to the movies. We had popcorn and hot dogs and we watched the movie and for the first time all week I just felt relaxed, you know. Then I looked at my watch. 6:45pm. I had completely lost track of the time. You see, Bill got home at 6:30pm every day. He got home at 6:30pm, we ate dinner at 7pm, watched a little TV until 9pm and then right to bed. Every day, same routine. Same time. Same schedule. So I get in my car and I book. I mean, I really fly home. I pull into the garage and go inside and he was there. Waiting for me. The first thing I noticed was that the TV wasn't on. I think that frightened me more than anything because that was the first thing Bill did when he got home. Get a soda. Turn on the tube. Sit back on the couch. Always. Not today. No, today Bill was just sitting on the couch. Waiting for me. Before I could even get a word out, he was on me. Why wasn't I home? Why didn't I have dinner ready? Where had I been? I tried to tell him about my week and Anna and the movies, but before I could even say a word I felt this burning feeling across the side of my face. I fell back a bit, more stunned than hurt. I put my hand to my face. A welt was already coming up. I looked at my hand and saw the blood. His belt. He had hit me with his belt.
